Built in 1930 Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Vicens will open to the public as a museum in the upcoming fall. The house, as many of Gaudi’s works, is located in Barcelona, a city filled with his stunning architectural masterpieces.
Gaudí designed Casa Vicens as a summer home for broker-dealer Manel Vicens i Montaner. The house was finished in 1885 and bought in 1899 by the Jover family. In 1925, Joan Martínez, a friend of Gaudí’s was comissioned to renovate the house. These renovations altered a lot of elements in the house. For once it went from being a one family home to a three-family residence and the original staircase was removed.
In 1993 Barcelona named this building a historical monument and in 2005 UNESCO declared it a World Human Heritage Site.
In 2007 the house was put up for sale, buy it was only bought in 2014. The lucky buyer had in plans restoring the house and later opening it to the public. But the project has moved in slow motion, which is no surprise, considering how long Gaudí’s La Sagrada Familia has been under construction.
Now in 2017, three years later, the buyer’s vision is almost becoming a reality. “The rehabilitation of the house started in 2015, and the opening of the house as a cultural space is planned for this autumn 2017”
The architetcts José Antonio Martínez Lapeña, Elías Torres and David García are the ones responsible for the renovation of this building.
The team began teir work in April 2015, and their main goal is to respect Gaudís work. So all the original details are as intact as possible. And the rest is true to the original features.
Although Fall is in a few months, an opening date and pricing information as not been announced. We are hoping it will be soon as this is one beautiful house.
